In the south is the cosmopolitan capital of Palma which is surrounded by glorious beaches of golden sand that first pulled in the tourists in the 1950’s. Majorca’s climate draws northern Europeans in by the plane load. The average temperatures in July and August are a very pleasant 24°C, you can swim in the sea comfortably between June and October and the winters are mild.
Majorca was one of the earliest parts of Spain to be developed for tourism, and now tourism accounts for 90% of the islands revenue. There is plenty going on around the island with music festivals throughout the summer with international performers to traditional local festivals in the rural villages.
